Leonard Bernstein

Leonard Bernstein, July 1979; Taken at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan

Kinoshita photographed most classical musicians of note in the latter half of the 20th century, and is said to be the most prolific photographer of musicians in the world. He has photographed a wide range of musicians, including conductors, pianists, violinists, cellists, wind instrumentalists, and singers. He received the Ministry of Education Award for Fine Arts for his photo book, "Musicians of the World". Many of his photographs use black-and-white film, and the dark color of vintage prints known as "Kinoshita black" simply could not be reproduced digitally.
